#HearingLoss is hard. #Lipreading is not natural but we all do it to some degree. Once you learn the strategies behind better #Speechreading (another name for lipreading), then you are ready to learn the lip shapes. We have four classes built to help our #HardOfHearing community and as always, a Buy One Get One #BOGO offer because we all need to get in the KNOW!

Hearing Loss LIVE! online lipreading classes are back.
Julia: Good morning and welcome to Hearing Loss LIVE! We hope you are remembering to subscribe, share and like all of our content. It is fall almost, and we are rolling out our live in person on Google Meet classes. We have four classes to choose from. Starting with lipreading strategies, used to be our lipreading concepts class. We decided strategies actually fits it better. Chelle, give us some insight on what do we do with our lipreading strategy and why it's so important.
Chelle: People have a huge misconception about lipreading, and it's the name itself, lipreading. It's so so much more than lipreading, because most visible-- most sounds of English are not visible on the lips or in language, probably any language, I'm sure. So there's only a handful of lip shapes that are very visible, and the rest are kind of guesswork and stuff. So there's a ton of other strategies we use to fill in the gaps in communication, and that's what we cover in lipreading strategies.
Julia: Thank you. Lipreading strategies, you don't realize how important they are until you take the class, and then you can move on to our lip shapes class one. In our lip shapes classes, our first class is six weeks, it goes over the five most visible, still this much visible, but most visible
shapes on your lips.
Did you have something you were gonna add.
Chelle: With one vowel.
Oh, do we do a vowel in the first class? I've only taught it a million times, and just realized that
[laughter]. Okay, moving on.
Lip shapes class one, we actually, you don't need to take our strategies class before you do, but I'm going to give a caveat here. Every student who's chosen to bypass the strategy class and try to start with our lip shapes goes back and takes our strategy class. We do use strategies in our lip shapes class, when we do practice and work with each other, you find out just how important those strategies are with the somewhat visible lip shapes. Chelle, What do we do in our advanced lip shape class two?
Chelle: We have some lesser visible lip shapes to go with on that one. They're very, they're very hard to see. And one of them is, I'll give an example. Is the "S". SSSS
It's a hiss, but for whatever reason, it's one of the ones I see. And I can tell if if words have an S at the end, because I can see that hiss. SSSS.
Like examples, so you can start -- and S is one of the ones that I don't hear at all. That's completely gone from my hearing, and I can see it thanks to lipreading. And I, you can usually tell when it's like multiple instead of just a single. And I I'm drawing a blank on the word right now that I want.
Julia: [laugther] Never fails, right?
Um, so our fourth class is conversation, sign conversation, sign conversation, lipreading, sorry, I went to my head on all the things we do. Take everything you've learned from strategies, the visible shapes in lip shapes one and two, and buy a couple vowels. And we take it and we make it
sentence structures that we practice with each other. We use everyday life examples of things you will see out in the world. We each of our teachers, teaches it a little different. It's actually kind of organized by the students. I want to say, you know, we have a topic, and they decide how they want to help learn each other's
lip shapes, their faces, their gestures, all the other things you need for better communication. And our conversation class, when you get to it comes with a bonus. It comes with a once a month practice session that we have for the students to get an extra practice on. We hope you check it out at hearinglosslive.com, if you look up
in the top you will see lipreading classes. It's a great informational page where access, whoo, that scared me. My timer went off. I think my thing [Zoom Mic] never knows that, but, so maybe you didn't hear that.
Anyways, lipreading classes gives information about all of them. We'll have another Super Saturday this fall as well. So maybe you don't have time for the six weeks, you can take our three hour class on a Saturday. Check it all out. Bye.
